Mushahid urges for free, fair polls in GB
PML-Q Secretary General Mushahid Hussain Sayed Wednesday urged the government to ensure free, fair and transparent elections in Gilgit-Baltistan as any bid to rig polls could backfire.
"Any attempt to rig the elections would provoke a serious popular backlash. All political forces contesting the elections in Gilgit-Baltistan (GB) are united against any rigging in elections," he said while talking to reporters here at the PML House after his four-day election campaign in Gilgit-Baltistan.
Mushahid said the voters of Gilgit-Baltistan would choose between practical services and false promises in the elections being held on Thursday. "The choice for Gilgit-Baltistan voters in tomorrow's elections is clear between PML performance, which is visible on the ground and false promises by the rulers which they have always failed to fulfil".
The PML Secretary General said that he was inspired by the PML election campaign in Gilgit-Baltistan, where people had warmly received the PML leadership and shown tremendous political awareness between right and wrong.
"The people lauded the services of the PML as they were aware of the truth in the last-minute election announcements by the ruling party which were nothing but an election stunt," he added. He questioned why the rulers did not announce any package for the people of Gilgit-Baltistan in the past 20 months even after assuming power last year.
He also paid tribute to the PML workers for carrying out a campaign without any official support and patronage which demonstrated that PML as an opposition party is a strong, vibrant and grassroots organization that has strong popular support in Gilgit-Baltistan. He wished all PML candidates in Gilgit-Baltistan best wishes and good luck for the elections tomorrow.
