Miliband telephoned Qureshi
British Foreign Secretary David Miliband telephoned Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi and discussed matters relating to the Friends of Democratic Pakistan meeting scheduled in Tokyo on August 17, European Union-Pakistan Summit and the arrest of 11 alleged Pakistan nationals in Britain.
"They expressed satisfaction over the state of bilateral relations, reaffirming their mutual desire to continue working towards further strengthening Pak-UK ties," said a Foreign Office spokesman. However, another official requesting anonymity said that the focus of telephonic conversation was the arrest of Pakistani nationals with Foreign Secretary Miliband expressing desire for more cooperation from Pakistan to stop alleged terrorists from travelling to UK.
According to him, Qureshi told his British counterpart that Pakistani Foreign Ministry was waiting for an official communication from London on the issue including the information about the identities of those arrested persons. Qureshi told Miliband that once the information from the London High Commission was received, the Pakistani government would come up with its position on the issue.
Apart from that, the Foreign Minister told British Foreign Secretary that Pakistan had always been willing to extend all possible support to Britain and other allies in fight against terrorism, the official said.
