7 reinstated judges resume office
Seven of the 11 superior court judges reinstated by the prime minister on Monday assumed charge of their offices on Wednesday.

The three reinstated judges of the Lahore High Court – Justice Khwaja Muhammad Sharif, Justice Ejaz Chaudhry and Justice Iqbal Hameedur Rehman - resumed office in Lahore.

Justice Ejaz and Justice Iqbal also resumed judicial work on Wednesday, while Justice Sharif did not attend to court proceedings. As per LHC tradition, the reinstated judges later visited the Lahore High Bar Association (LHCBA) to meet lawyers.

All incoming and outgoing judges of the LHC used to visit the LHCBA to meet the lawyers, but since November 3, 2007, the bar had not welcomed or bid farewell to any judge.

With the reinstatement of the three judges, the LHC judges' number has rose to 54. According to the seniority list, Justice Sharif is at number two, Justice Ejaz at number 10 and Justice Iqbal at 20.

Meanwhile reinstated Supreme Court (SC) judges - Justice Javed Iqbal and Justice Raja Fayyaz - also assumed charge of their offices in the SC Quetta Registry Office, a senior SC official told APP.

The Online news agency reported that the reinstated judges of the Sindh High Court - Justice Maqbool Baqar and Justice Mushir Alam - also assumed office and attended to their duties on Wednesday. Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani had announced the reinstatement of all sacked judges early on Monday morning and the Law and Justice Division issued a notification in this regard on Tuesday.
