PML-Q flays govt for not meeting promises
The PML-Q on Sunday termed the coalition government a failed set-up that could not cross the very first hurdle of fulfilling its commitment of restoring the deposed judges. "They have failed in the very first test of fulfilling their commitment with the nation for the restoration of judiciary," said PML-Q Information Secretary Senator Tariq Azeem while talking on Sunday.
He said it was the basic commitment of the coalition government that they would restore the judiciary but now it was clear that they had failed to do it. "First they gave a deadline of April 30 that was not met, then they came out with a new deadline of May 12, and it will also pass without the restoration of judiciary," he added.
Senator Tariq said the PML-Q was saying from the very first day that the restoration of judiciary was not possible through a simple resolution in the National Assembly. "As far as the PML-Q is concerned on this issue, we have already announced in principle to support the resolution for the restoration of judiciary, but the methodology needs to be spelled out," he added.
He said the PML-Q had set up a committee comprising legal experts of the party Senators SM Zafar, Wasim Sajjad, Anwer Bhinder and Khalid Ranjha, to look into the text of the resolution that would possibly be presented in parliament. "Once the committee sees the text of the resolution, it would be able to make any comment," he added.
He said his party also believes that the matter of the restoration of judiciary was not as simple as it was being portrayed. "We believe that the resolution for the restoration of judiciary should have to bear all legal and constitutional tools for implementation," he added. He said all the political parties, including the PML-Q, wanted a just solution of the issue. However, there might be differences in finding a way out of resolving this problem, Tariq Azeem added.
