Salute
Abdur   Rahman   Mian

President John F. Kennedy sent a letter dated September 21, 1962 to Ayub Khan, in anticipation of General’s visit to USA. White House knew through quasi diplomatic channels, that the visitor had complied a long shopping list for hardware and fire arms.

President Kennedy was better informed about the dire plight of Pakistani people due to the twin menace of water logging and salinity of its farm land. US International Cooperation Agency (ICA) had already investigated the causes, the consequences, and its solutions. Salute, in respect of President Kennedy, remains due eversince, by this nation. The Martial Law Administrator of Pakistan, then returned from his US visit with a bread basket rather than deadly weapons. Thanks to Ambassador Joseph S. Farland, the project was implemented and this faraway land became cultureable because of President Kennedy we are growing food, forage and cash crops to feed Pakistan, Afghanistan & beyond.

President Obama’s transition team may retrieve that letter and the Project Implementation Report. The concerned person may even choose to post it on their crowded bill board. For comparative study, I feel obliged to suggest the position paper authored by Michail Bulgakov, titled: Heat of a Dog. Russians invaded Afghanistan, but the heart transplant operation was performed of a chief camoufleur, then ruling Pakistan.

Tragedy is; a lot of Pakistanis found this virtual transformation highly rewarding. It became an endemic. There is no in-box antidote.
