Tall Claims Vs Inaction: A Failing Regime
Ayyaz Ahmed Sial

The pro-US traitor General, who maligned the Pakistani institutions, has long left, but what change in policy directives can one witness in the present ‘Democratic regime’? The arguments presented by many as a failure of Musharraf’s regime still exist. Rather, the situation has worsened further, with Pakistan presently facing an acute economic crisis, power shortage, scarcity of grain and law and order situation. Why so? The Brutus General has long left office! Why is there then the pursuance of his policies in the present regime? We are told that this war on terror is our own. Well! What is new about this discovery??? The real revelation done by the present regime is that those whom we fight are none other than our own ‘brethren’ and those who finance them are also from among us. The Question that arises in one’s mind then is, if our intelligence has gone so accurate, then what is stopping them to track down this ‘home-made’ terrorist network and bring the ‘brethren’ to justice?

But, let us first ask, what justice prevails in this country? Those that won the elections on the basis of long drawn Charters stating in tall claims their AGENDAS; including review of terrorism policy, economic policy, restoration of judiciary, restoration of the constitution and provision of ‘roti, kapra and Makan’ for common man: are still well settled in offices, though none of what they claimed has been achieved. The judiciary has not been restored, the Parliament still not supreme because of lack of perseverance in nullifying the amendments, the military operations in Swat, FATA, still continue, lives are still being lost; with the death toll claimed by suicide terrorists rising each day. No solid justification has been provided to the people of Pakistan, which is their democratic right, for the continuation of old policies and for lack of strategy formulation to fight against the upsurge of terrorism. Decisions are still being taken ‘elsewhere’, with the Parliament just being ‘told’ about them.

The President seems more to be that of People’s Party, then of the people of Pakistan. Sitting in the Presidential office, he places the picture of his beloved martyred wife in place of Jinnah (Our Quaid) and is fond enough to take it to United Nations General Assembly address. Will somebody be bold enough to ask him, what the President needs to do with the picture of a politician of some political party? The President’s office should be non-partisan and should uphold national values rather than mere provincial or party ones.

At one end, we are going bankrupt, facing an acute economic crisis and reaching out to states to find the ‘Friends of Pakistan’; with the overtime of the employees being cancelled, the outstanding dues of purchase items withheld and outstanding pays not given, however, on the other hand, the President and Prime Minister are keen enough to RESTORE rather bring a bunch of ministers back in office, just because they belong to the PPP!!!

The issues and problems that Pakistan presently faces are multifarious and perhaps one can go on and on, but the dilemma is that putting them across in writing is not the solution, unless the grievances voiced are addressed and put right.
